Hi, I’m Finn Gazzard, director of Gazzard Landscapes Ltd.
I was born and raised in the Cotswolds, where I developed a deep love for the outdoors and its natural beauty. For me, outdoor spaces have always been a place of peace and escape.
Now, I channel that passion into creating beautiful, functional gardens that bring people closer to nature. My goal is to design outdoor spaces that not only bring peace and joy to their owners, but also support local wildlife along the way.

Over the past 5+ years, my team and I have worked on a wide variety of unique outdoor projects — from dry stone walling and pool relining to Italian pond creation, patios, trellises, garden maintenance, and bespoke verandas. Each project reflects our commitment to craftsmanship, creativity, and care for the natural environment.
Here are some of our largest projects, showcasing the expertise and passion we bring to every garden.
Sunken Pond Restoration
This was an exciting project where we had the chance to bring an old, forgotten, and leaking water feature back to life. After clearing away overgrown shrubs, weeds, and damaged stone, we were able to identify and repair the leak in the basin.
Once drained and cleaned, we sealed the crack with a specialist pointing mix and re-rendered the basin. From there, we carefully rebuilt the tiers of the stone amphitheatre using hand-dressed Cotswold walling stone and a custom blend of sands with white and grey cement. To complete the transformation, we added 50mm thick, aged York stone paving across each tier.
The result is a timeless garden feature — not just restored, but reimagined as a space for sitting, picnics, reading, and social gatherings for generations to come. It’s a piece that will endure long after I’m gone.
Crafting a Bespoke Pergola
This was a lovely project where we had the chance to showcase our woodworking skills. The brief was to create a pergola-style structure with the added protection of a roof and ventilated walls, making the garden space usable all year round.
We began by building the pergola frame to fit perfectly within the space, maximising the garden’s potential. Once constructed, we added rafters and fitted a high-quality corrugated PVC ‘Vistalux’ roof, which lets in light while keeping the weather out. For the walls, we used a Venetian battening style that allows the structure to stay cool and breathable in summer, while offering shelter from wind and rain in winter.
To complete the feature, we built custom seating clad with vertical Venetian battens to contrast with the horizontal walls, adding depth and visual interest. With cushions and blankets, it’s now a perfect spot for relaxing in all seasons.
Alongside the pergola, we also created a simple yet elegant deck, complete with a classic handrail and strong, carefully crafted staircase. Each spindle was given the same attention to detail, ensuring strength, safety, and style.

As experienced deckbuilders working across Stroud, we create decking that actually lasts in our wet winters and hot summers. Composite boards are our go-to recommendation - cost more upfront but you're not repainting every other year. We've built everything from simple platforms to multi-level decks that turn unusable slopes into proper outdoor rooms. Built-in seating, LED lighting, glass balustrades, timber rails - whatever suits your house and budget. Most of our deckbuilding work is creating flat useable space where there's currently just a hill. We built a deck in Slad last year that completely transformed their garden.
We repair and build dry stone walls throughout Stroud and the Cotswolds - it's proper slow work but that's because you can't rush a wall that needs to last centuries. Most of our dry stone walling work is fixing old boundary walls and garden walls that are leaning or collapsed. We've repaired walls in Minchinhampton, Painswick, up on the commons, everywhere really. New walls cost more than blockwork but they look right for Cotswold gardens and they'll outlive us all if built properly. We also build feature walls, retaining walls, raised beds, and outdoor seating from dry stone. Each wall needs good foundations, the right batter angle, and through stones tying it together - mess any of that up and it'll fail. See our services here.
We lay patios across Stroud using Cotswold stone, Indian sandstone, limestone, granite setts, block paving - whatever suits your house style and budget. The trick with patios round here is dealing with the slopes. Every patio needs proper base work and drainage or you'll have a rocking, puddle-filled mess within two years. Most people want that honey-coloured Cotswold stone look, which is great, but it needs laying right on these hillsides. We've installed patios in Chalford, courtyards in Minchinhampton, paths winding through gardens in Bisley. Each one's planned for the slope and how water runs off, not just thrown down and hoped for the best.
We lay turf across Stroud, but it's not just about rolling out grass and hoping it takes. The clay soil round here needs serious prep work - rotovating, adding tonnes of sand and organic matter, creating proper drainage falls. Just laying turf on top of our heavy clay gets you nowhere. We use different grass mixes depending on whether your lawn gets sun or shade, heavy use from kids and dogs, or just needs to look good. Lawn renovation is big part of what we do aswell - scarifying, aerating, overseeding, fixing bumpy surfaces. A lot of lawns don't need replacing, they just need proper attention.
